What’s Next For Patriots With 2019 NFL Season Now Officially Over?

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Kansas City Chiefs’ dramatic Super Bowl LIV victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday officially closed the book on the 2019 NFL season.

As the league now shifts its sights to 2020, here’s a look ahead for the New England Patriots, who have been in offseason mode since their wild-card loss to the Tennessee Titans four weeks ago:

Feb. 23 to March 2: NFL Scouting CombineThanks to their unusually early playoff exit, the Patriots were able to send a large contingent of coaches to the 2020 Senior Bowl. The next tentpole event in the pre-draft process is the combine, which takes place later this month in Indianapolis. While there, Patriots coaches and personnel staff will have the opportunity to interview draft prospects while learning valuable information about their measurables and athletic profiles.

March 10: Deadline for teams to designate players for franchise or transition tagThe Patriots don’t have any obvious candidates for those tags this offseason

March 16: Free agent tampering period beginsImpending free agents are free to begin negotiating with other teams.

March 18: Free agency beginsEvery NFL player who is not under contract with his current team through the 2020 season will hit the open market at 4 p.M. ET on March 18, the first day of the new league year. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is the obvious headliner here, but he’s far from the only impending free agent the Patriots need to worry about. A total of 19 New England players are set to hit either unrestricted or restricted free agency, including key pieces like safety Devin McCourty, linebackers Kyle Van Noy and Jamie Collins, left guard Joe Thuney and special teamer Matthew Slater.

Here’s the full list:

QB Tom BradyDT Adam Butler (RFA)LB Shilique CalhounLB Jamie CollinsDE Keionta Davis (RFA)WR Phillip DorsettST Nate EbnerOL Jermaine Eluemunor (RFA)OL James FerentzK Nick FolkOL Ted KarrasS Devin McCourtyOT Marshall NewhouseLB Elandon RobertsDT Danny SheltonST Matthew SlaterG Joe ThuneyLB Kyle Van NoyTE Ben Watson

April 23 to 25: 2020 NFL DraftAnother silver lining from the Patriots’ disappointing postseason: They own the 23rd overall pick in this year’s draft, which, if they keep the pick, it would be their highest original (i.E. Not acquired via trade) selection since 2006.

New England is expected to have a total of 12 picks to work with this year — including four projected compensatory selections (two third-rounders, two sixth-rounders) — but currently owns just one in the top 86 after trading its second-rounder to the Atlanta Falcons for wide receiver Mohamed Sanu.

Don’t be surprised if Bill Belichick swings some sort of deal to close the gap between Nos. 23 and 87.

First round (23rd overall)Third round (87th overall)Third round (compensatory)Third round (compensatory)Fourth round (via Chicago)Sixth round (via Denver)Sixth round (via Houston)Sixth round (compensatory)Sixth round (compensatory)Seventh round (via Philadelphia)Seventh round (via Seattle)Seventh round (via Atlanta)

The Patriots’ draft needs will vary based on how they proceed in free agency and the trade market, but finding a promising young tight end should be near the top of their offseason priority list. Wide receiver, edge rusher, interior offensive line, safety, defensive line, linebacker and quarterback are among the team’s other potential needs.

Late May through mid-June: Organized team activities and mandatory minicampIf Brady does wind up re-signing with the Patriots, will he skip voluntary OTAs for the third consecutive spring? That move didn’t bite the Pats during their Super Bowl-winning 2018 campaign, but a lack of connection between Brady and any pass-catcher not named Julian Edelman or James White severely hamstrung New England’s offense this season.

Liga Primer Inggris Mempekerjakan CEO Setelah Pencarian Kesalahan

Minggu 3-5: Negara Bagian Ohio sangat, sangat kelihatan bagiannya.

Minggu 7: South Carolina 20, Georgia 17.

Gol lapangan pemenang pertandingan James McCourt memberi Illinois kemenangan besar atas Wisconsin, mengakhiri harapan Playoff Badgers ‘College Football. Patrick Gorski / USA TODAY Sports
Minggu 8: Illinois 24, Wisconsin 23. Seminggu sebelum pertarungan tenda melawan Ohio State, para Badgers lupa bagaimana cara mencetak gol. Delapan peluang mencetak hanya menghasilkan 23 poin, dan Illinois mengejutkan para Badgers dengan tujuan lapangan detik-detik terakhir. Peluang CFP Wisconsin turun dari 33% menjadi 3%.

Minggu 9: Kansas State 48, Oklahoma 41. Tiga minggu, tiga gangguan besar. Memang, OU mampu pulih dan masih membuat CFP, tetapi ketika comeback besar Sooners jatuh pendek – mereka tertinggal 48-23 dua menit memasuki kuarter keempat tetapi datang dalam upaya tendangan samping kontroversial memiliki bola dengan peluang untuk mengikat – peluang CFP mereka turun dari 49% menjadi 11%.

Minggu 11: LSU 46, Alabama 41 dan Minnesota 31, Penn State 26.

Minggu 13: Arizona State 31, Oregon 28.

New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints memimpin 10 tim terkuat NFL untuk musim 2019

USA TODAY Sports Diterbitkan 8:12 ET, 30 Oktober 2019

Two major reasons the New England Patriots are the most powerful team in the NFL: head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady, here after Sunday's win over the Browns.

(Foto: Greg M. Cooper, USA TODAY Sports)

  1. New England (8-0)
  2. New Orleans (7-1)
  4. Green Bay (7-1)
Apa senjata ampuh berlari kembali Aaron Jones menjadi.
Tandai 23 Desember di kalender Anda: Packers at the Vikings.
Baik? Tanpa J.J. Watt, 5-3 Houston tidak bisa menangkap mereka, kan?
  8. Houston (5-3)
Bahkan setelah kepergian tepi rusher Jadeveon Clowney, Whitney Mercilus menyusun tahun terbaik dalam karirnya. Tapi bisakah dia mempertahankan momentum sekarang bahwa gelandang elit J.J. Watt keluar untuk musim dengan cedera?

9, Kansas City (5-3)

England crush Bulgaria 6-0 but racist chants force stoppages in qualifier

Given the history and given the buildup, in which claim and counter-claim had raised the temperature around this Euro 2020 qualifier, it was easy to fear the worst. But when it did happen, when the monkey chants towards Tyrone Mings started from a section of the Bulgaria support, there could only be shock and revulsion.

Raheem Sterling with a red ball: Raheem Sterling (left) celebrates scoring his second and England’s fifth goal with Harry Kane.

© PA Raheem Sterling (left) celebrates scoring his second and England’s fifth goal with Harry Kane.

Mings, who ought to have revelled in the thrill of wearing the England shirt for the first time, was not the only black player to be targeted. Raheem Sterling and Marcus Rashford also heard the disgusting noises, meaning England’s victory was quickly relegated to a footnote.

The idea for Gareth Southgate and his players was to show their capacity to bounce back from Friday’s 2-1 defeat by the Czech Republic in Prague and they did that in style. But this was an altogether different kind of psychological test in front of a crowd in which Nazi salutes were performed and the 50-strong group of black-clad ultras who were behind some of the worst abuses were ejected. The mindless minority brought shame on Bulgaria.

It was deeply distressing simply to watch, to feel the skin crawl whenever one of England’s black players had the ball in anticipation of what might happen and so goodness knows how Mings, Sterling and Rashford were able to continue. After the chants had started to ring out with greater clarity, Sterling gilded the scoreline with two smart finishes. “Who put the ball in the racists’ net? Raheem Sterling,” chanted the England support.

Southgate had made it plain he and his players would follow Uefa’s three-step protocol and so they did. First, there was an announcement over the PA system to urge the chants to stop and, when they did not, the referee, Ivan Bebek, halted the game just before the interval and asked Southgate whether he wanted to take his players off to the dressing room.

He said he wanted to get to half-time, talk to the players and take stock. There was the option for England not to return but, according to the Football Association chairman, Greg Clarke, the players wanted to resume; they did not want the racists to win.

England’s last visit to this stadium in 2011, also for a European qualifier, had been scarred by monkey chants towards Ashley Cole, Ashley Young and Theo Walcott. So much for the progress the Bulgarian Football Union president, Borislav Mihaylov, had trumpeted last week. After half-time, there were more audible monkey chants but the official line was that England did not hear them. They wanted to battle on.

The one hope had been for nothing unsavoury to happen but with tensions simmering in a half-empty stadium – and sounds carrying – that hope quickly disintegrated.

Mings heard the abuse during the warm-up but there were 24 minutes on the clock when Harry Kane, the England captain, began a conversation with Bebek – in line with Uefa’s protocol – and Southgate did likewise with the Uefa official on the sideline. Moments later, an announcer pleaded for the chants to stop or the game would “be suspended and may be abandoned”.

It was not difficult to pick out the monkey chants after Mings had played a pass out of defence and it was clear the England debutant had heard them because he turned towards a section of the crowd, stood still for a moment and stared. The stadium holds 44,000 but the capacity was reduced by 5,000 as a punishment by Uefa for the behaviour of the Bulgaria support in the June qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Kosovo, which was ruled to have been racist. The cordoned off area behind one of the goals was adorned by anti-racism banners. But there were further large swathes of empty seats, giving a curious backdrop to the spectacle.

From the moment Mings effectively confronted the home fans, the game ceased to be a spectacle. It was horribly edgy. At that point, England were 2-0 up and playing well, even though the action came to feel incidental.

Rashford scored the opener with a fizzing shot from an angle and the second was laid on by Sterling, who swapped passes with Kane and crossed for Ross Barkley to tap home. The England fans directed a bellowed chant to their Bulgarian rivals. “You racist bastards, you know what you are.”

Mings heard further taunts on at least two occasions before half-time and the only wonder was that the England players did not leave the pitch. During the stoppage in the 41st minute, the Bulgaria captain, Ivelin Popov, appeared to urge the home fans to calm down. England scored twice more before half-time and it was a pity their imposing football rang so hollow. Kane picked out Barkley to head past Plamen Iliev, while Kieran Trippier and Kane ushered in Sterling. By then, onlookers were wondering how much worse the situation would get and whether the game would finish.

England were quite prepared to walk off in the second half and they might have done so because there were further racist chants. It was, according to Southgate, an impossible situation. Sterling took his second goal nicely, Kane rounded off the rout with the sixth and it would have been double figures but for Iliev’s resistance. The only mercy was the full-time whistle.

Redskins’ offense will be without Brandon Scherff, Vernon Davis, Jordan Reed against Patriots

The Washington Redskins’ offense will be missing major pieces for a second consecutive week as the team limps into a showdown with the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.

Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff ankle will miss his second consecutive game, while tight ends Vernon Davis and Jordan Reed both remain in the league-mandated concussion protocol and will not play against the Patriots. Rookie Wes Martin will make his second consecutive start at right guard after making his NFL debut in last week’s loss to the New York Giants. It was the first time he was on the right side of the line since he played right tackle in high school.

“It was a good learning experience,” Martin said. “Assignments and techniques is really the main focus. If you do those things right, then everything else will just kind of fall together.”

Redskins name Colt McCoy the starter at quarterback against New England

Quarterback Case Keenum, who started the first four games, is questionable with a foot injury, and will not start in any case. Coach Jay Gruden named Colt McCoy the starter on Friday and declined to say whether Keenum would be the backup if healthy.

Center Chase Roullier knee and wide receiver Terry McLaurin hamstring are both questionable after being limited in practice all week. Neither played last week, and Gruden called McLaurin a game-day decision after not having him go full speed in Friday’s practice.

“Questionable is a great word for him right now,” Gruden said about McLaurin, a productive rookie who still leads Washington in receiving yards and touchdowns despite missing a week. “It is probably – with him.”

The Redskins are on the verge of a lost season. So what do they do with Dwayne Haskins?

Cornerback Josh Norman knee is listed as questionable but was a full participant in Friday’s session. Linebacker Josh Harvey-Clemons hamstring is out after not practicing all week.

For New England, running back Rex Burkhead foot, safety Patrick Chung heel, safety Nate Ebner groin, wide receiver Julian Edelman chest and linebacker Dont’a Hightower shoulder were all listed as questionable.

Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon knee and defensive end Michael Bennett shoulder did not receive an injury designation after being full participants Friday.

Condo column: Does condominium association president have rights to residents’ email addresses?

Editor’s note: Attorneys at Goede, Adamczyk, DeBoest & Cross, PLLC., respond to questions about Florida community association law. The firm represents community associations throughout Florida and focuses on condominium and homeowner association law, real estate law, litigation, estate planning and business law.

Richard D. DeBoest II, Esq., is a co-owner and shareholder of the law Firm Goede, Adamczyk, DeBoest & Cross, PLLC.  CONTRIBUTED PHOTO

Q: Does the president of a condominium association have the rights to the email addresses of all its residents for emailing information to the residents? We do not have a community newsletter and the only one who I was told has the rights to all email addresses is the property manager, who is a paid employee of the larger board.

— J. D., Indian River Shores

A: An association cannot mandate that owners provide email addresses to it. However, many owners do voluntarily provide email addresses.

Once provided, the email address become official records of the association. However, again, unless an owner has provided their email address to the association and expressly indicated that it is to be used for official communication, the email address is not available to owners who request to obtain it.

So, in most cases, owner email addresses kept by the association are used for what is commonly called “casual communication,” such as newsletters and updates. Traditional mail is used for official communication, such as meeting notices, ballots and proxies.

Who can utilize the email addresses and for what purpose is a decision of the board, not the president, or any single director. So, unless the board has authorized the president to send communication to the owners , he or she does not have any right to do so using email addresses that were given to the association.

Q: My local HOA Board of Directors adopted a rule that states a Board of Director meeting can be recorded only if the person recording announces that they are going to record it, and the videos cannot be published or uploaded to social media websites after recording.  Is this legal to prohibit uploading of the video to a social media website, like YouTube or Nextdoor, and under what authority can this be enforced?

— D.H., Stuart

A:  Owners have the right to video and tape record board meetings and members meetings. However, the board can adopt reasonable rules regarding how this can be done.

A rule that requires a person to announce they are recording before they start is reasonable and enforceable. Whether or not the board can enforce a rule prohibiting the uploading of the video to social media is much less clear.

This is a cutting-edge issue in this day and age and pits free speech rights against a person’s right to privacy. There is no law that presently prohibits what a person can do with such a recording. So, at this point absent a court decision or statutory change, I do not believe the board can enforce such a rule.

Q: Our board is attending a pre-suit mediation with a homeowner who is threatening to sue the association. We have asked if as owners we can attend the mediation. The board said we cannot attend the mediation. Is this true?

A.  Yes. The only people legally allowed to attend a formal pre-suit mediation are the parties of the mediation. In this case that would be the board of directors on behalf of the association and the homeowners bringing the action.

Legal counsel for both parties and the association manager would also be allowed to attend, but other non-party homeowners would not be allowed to attend. However, if case is settled, the written settlement agreement would be an official record of the association and all owners would be allowed to obtain a copy of it.

Antonio Brown’s Patriots Debut Is Business as Usual

Five days after a woman who was once his trainer filed a federal lawsuit in the Southern District of Florida accusing him of sexual assault and rape, receiver Antonio Brown made his debut for New England in a 43-0 victory over the Miami Dolphins.

He caught four passes, one for a 20-yard touchdown, receiving a hug from quarterback Tom Brady and enthusiastic congratulations from teammates. Patriots fans cheered fervently. For the Patriots, legal questions were subjugated in a pursuit of victory against an overmatched opponent.

Asked how he weighed the decision to play Brown, Bill Belichick, the Patriots’ coach, said: “I’ll talk about the game; I’ve already commented on that. I’m not going to say any more.”

Brown left the New England dressing room before the news media were permitted inside.

Asked if he had any conflicted feelings about whether Brown should have played, Brady said: “I don’t make any of those decisions. I just show up and play and do my job.”

Whether Brady and Brown will continue to play together this season remains uncertain. The N.F.L. is expected to interview Brown’s accuser as soon as Monday. Commissioner Roger Goodell could suspend Brown with pay if he believes “the circumstances and evidence warrant doing so,” according to the N.F.L. Player Personnel Policy.

Brown, 31, has denied any wrongdoing and threatened to countersue. Last week, the Miami-Dade state attorney’s office issued a statement saying there were “no prior police investigative contacts regarding these allegations or these individuals.” ESPN reported Sunday that Brown declined an offer to settle the case for a payment of $2 million.

Last Tuesday, the woman, who met Brown about a decade ago when both were students at Central Michigan, filed a lawsuit that described three assaults, two in June 2017 and another in May 2018. Profane messages from Brown were included as evidence in the suit.

The player’s lawyer has said that any sex between the two was consensual.

On New England’s second play on Sunday, Brown, a seven-time Pro Bowler, entered the game to a mix of boos and cheers. Brady immediately made him his preferred receiver with an 18-yard pass over the middle, a 10-yarder to the sideline and an 8-yarder on a curl pattern. Then Brown lured the Dolphins into a holding penalty, which set up the Patriots’ first touchdown, a short run.

Late in the second quarter, 20 yards from the end zone, Brown lined up in the left slot and caught a perfectly thrown fade pass from Brady to put the Patriots up, 13-0. Two Patriots fans caught Brown as he tumbled over a padded wall at the back of the end zone.

The decision to play Brown is certain to bring heightened scrutiny to the Patriots and the N.F.L. The league has been accused of being inconsistent in penalizing players in cases involving accusations of violence against women.

In 2014, the league strengthened its personal conduct policy, saying it would no longer rely only on law enforcement officials’ decisions when weighing whether to fine or suspend a player. Brown’s case appears to have made the league’s decision more complicated because it involves a civil accusation, not a criminal one.

Brown has essentially forced his way off two teams since the end of the 2018 season — the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Oakland Raiders. Belichick has relished adding what are considered challenging players to the New England roster, a formula that has helped produce six Super Bowl titles. A looming question is whether Brown will remain eligible as the Patriots seek a seventh.

The Patriots looked unbeatable against the Steelers. And now they add Antonio Brown.

Columnist Jerry Brewer: It’s Antonio Brown’s NFL now, and everyone else is just living in it

They dominated the Pittsburgh Steelers in a – victory Sunday evening in Foxborough, Mass., to open their season. And that was without Brown, the seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver signed Saturday after the Oakland Raiders accommodated his demand to be released. Brown was not eligible to play in this game, but could be added to the lineup for next Sunday’s game at Miami.

The Patriots, during their dynastic run, regularly have turned sluggish regular season starts into Super Bowl triumphs. This time, they looked terrific on opening night. Quarterback Tom Brady, who turned last month, was as efficient as ever. He threw three touchdown passes, two to Phillip Dorsett and one to fellow wide receiver Josh Gordon, in a -for-, -yard passing night.

Brady distributed the ball adroitly to running back James White and wideouts Gordon, Julian Edelman and Dorsett. Gordon played well after being reinstated by the NFL last month following his latest suspension under the substance abuse policy. The New England defense was without linebacker Kyle Van Noy, who was on the inactive list, reportedly because his wife went into labor. Yet the Patriots shut down the Steelers in Pittsburgh’s first game since the offseason exits of Brown, who was traded to the Raiders, and running back Le’Veon Bell, who left in free agency to sign with the New York Jets after sitting out all of last season in a contract dispute.

Now he’s a Patriot: The Antonio Brown saga, explained

The interesting thing, of course, is what happens next. Brown was in the area but was not permitted to play because he was not on the Patriots’ roster by the p.m. NFL deadline Saturday. According to NBC, Brady extended Brown an offer to stay at his house while Brown gets settled.

“Everyone comes in here and works as hard as they can to try to establish a great role,” Brady said in an on-field postgame interview with that network. “It’s about getting him up to speed. He’s obviously a great player. I’ve played against him for a long time. So we’re excited to have him and try to incorporate him the best way we can.”

Brown has been one of the NFL’s most productive wide receivers throughout his career. If things work out, he potentially could be the best wideout with whom Brady has played, maybe even better than Randy Moss.

But Brown also has become the ultimate diva wide receiver and has prompted his last two teams to accommodate his wish to leave. The Steelers traded him to the Raiders in March for third- and fifth-round draft picks after Brown became disgruntled in Pittsburgh, in part because of a clash with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Brown’s tenure with the Raiders included ailing feet, two helmet grievances against the NFL, multiple fines, a practice-field verbal confrontation with General Manager Mike Mayock, a YouTube video that appeared to contain a private phone conversation with Coach Jon Gruden and an post seeking his release.

Randy Moss’s advice for Antonio Brown: Put up or shut up’ in New England

Patriots Coach Bill Belichick has added controversial and troubled players before. The list includes Moss, Corey Dillon, Albert Haynesworth, Chad Ochocinco and Gordon. Belichick’s success with those moves has been mixed. With Brown, the stakes are raised considerably. Brown could frustrate Brady the way he ultimately frustrated Roethlisberger and the Steelers. He could reject the famed Patriot Way and be sent quickly packing.

Or he could tone down his act, fit in and be the absolutely dominant receiver for Brady that Moss was in , when the Patriots took an – record into the Super Bowl before being upset by the New York Giants.

The Patriots team that was on the field Sunday night didn’t appear to need any help. The night began with a celebration of last season’s Super Bowl title that included former players Rob Gronkowski, Martellus Bennett, Rob Ninkovich, Willie McGinest, Ty Law and Drew Bledsoe. Then the Patriots dismantled the Steelers. It was – at halftime and – entering the fourth quarter.

Antonio Brown and the Patriots are a match so crazy it just might work

The defense kept JuJu Smith-Schuster, who inherited Brown’s job as the Steelers’ No. receiver, and tailback James Conner, Bell’s successor at running back since last season, from doing much of anything . The Steelers’ supporting cast around Roethlisberger appeared lacking. The Patriots were as ruthless as ever. Brady played the entire game and Belichick called a timeout in the final seconds to avoid confusion that might have permitted the Steelers to score a cosmetic touchdown.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do,” Brady told NBC. “We just want to be a lot better, I think, than we were tonight. But I thought the defense played great and gave us a lot of opportunities. We made some big plays in the passing game, which always helps. But I think we’ve got to get back to work and do a better job next week.”
