A Review Of Manchester United, Man City, Tottenham Hotspur And More Changes

This weekend, England s Premier League will come flying back into action for another season. As is becoming custom with leagues across Europe and the world, every team in the Premier League will have a new set of kits for the upcoming season. This is an effort to show and review each of the new looks for all Premier League clubs for the upcoming season. For further changes across the league, click here.

Manchester City

While Puma s sphere of influence within the Premier League may have declined by two clubs, they still have Crystal Palace and Newcastle under their belt and they also pulled a huge coup by getting Manchester City to leave the NikeUmbro umbrella. Puma have been trying to stamp their mark on City s identity and I d say that putting purple trim on their home kit for the first time in club history is a way to do that. The second kit is an asymmetrical adventure of a kit that s inspired by the Madchester club scene of the s and the third kit looks like what would happen if a raspberry mango smoothie became a football kit.

Manchester United

The Red Devils kept things very simple with their home kit. In an effort to go with a design that is intended to be a tribute to the – team that won the European Treble, the three stripes of Adidas are red to match the rest of the shirt and the badge is styled in a similar manner to what was worn on the pitch during that famous season from years ago. The away kit consists of a shirt that appears to be a very light shade of brown with black shorts and black trim.

Newcastle United

Newcastle and Puma are allegedly celebrating the th anniversary of their last major trophy victory with their home kit for this season. I say allegedly because while this is a decent-looking kit, the only thing that this kit has in common with what they wore while winning the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup is that it s black-and-white. That s it. The Magpies will continue to have a dark look on the field, as they ve gone with a very deep shade of green from the shirt down to the socks for their secondary look. Finally, they ve gone with an all-orange look for their third kit.

Norwich City

If you like Manchester City s third kit, then you will also like what Norwich City will be wearing for home games this season. The Canaries will be returning from the Championship with that competition s trophy in hand and a home kit that starts out yellow, then fades into green once it gets below the sponsor logo and into the shorts. It s basically manufacturer Errea s take on the gradient look that Nike gave to Tottenham Hotspur last season. They will be wearing that strange design alongside a somewhat standard all-red clash kit with yellow trim.

Sheffield United

The Blades are back in the Premier League for the first time since their one-and-done appearance back in -. They re already reaping the benefits of just being back in the Premier League since they will have a new shirt sponsor in the form of Union Standard Group in what is being reported as a record-breaking deal by the club. As far as their primary kit goes, Sheffield United haven t really settled on a standard look during their time with Adidas but what they usually do is just go with some variation of a shirt with red-and-white stripes and black shorts. That s what we got with their home kit, while their away kit is a gray look with red trim.

The Saints have been lost in the wilderness from an aesthetic standpoint since moving to Under Armour ahead of the – season. This season is no different, as all three of their kits are a bit of a mess. The connecting thread between the three kits is a shoulder yoke and in the case of the home kit, it looks blocky and out of place.

Tottenham Hotspur

The good news is that Spurs have finally come to their senses and released a no-nonsense home kit. It s white with the only traces of navy being seen on the sleeve cuffs and the collar, while the rest of the navy is on the shorts. This is basically an ideal look for Spurs. They will be wearing all-navy as a clash kit, which will have a purple pattern near the top of the shirt that could be best described as an enigmatic design that doesn t look great on paper but looks good on the field.

While some clubs are known for sticking with a baseline design and just adding minor tweaks to it, the only thing that s for sure with Watford is that the colors will be yellow-black-and-red and the crest will be on the right-hand side of the shirt. Other than that, it s a mystery when it comes to what to expect. This season, they will be wearing an Adidas shirt that is half-black and half-yellow. They continue to zig when everyone expects them to zag. On the other hand, their away kit is a somewhat simple navy blue kit, so there s not much zigging or zagging going on there.

West Ham United

While Newcastle are trying to pass off their – home kit as a throwback of sorts, West Ham United and Umbro haven t really tried to connect their current kit with the past. Yet, if you squint hard enough then you could see a vague tribute to the kit that the team wore during their run to the European Cup Winners Cup Final in . Meanwhile, the all-white away kit is actually inspired by what they wore when they won the FA Cup. The all-blue third kit isn t a nod to anything in particular, which breaks the pattern in that regard.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

After surviving and thriving during their first season back in the Premier League, Wolves are going with a kit that looks very similar to what they wore last season — at least from a distance. There s a sublimated pattern on the new shirt and the three stripes of Adidas are on the sides instead of the shoulder. Wolves will also be wearing an all-black change kit, which is the exact opposite of the all-white look that they wore last season.
